Dr. Kachalia’s Thoughts On Dental Emergencies

AT INNOVATIVE DENTAL CONCEPTS, WE CARE ABOUT EVERY aspect of your oral health. Unfortunately, no matter how careful we are, or how much we try to avoid them, life hands us emergencies sometimes. That’s just a fact of life. So, let’s touch on dental emergencies for a minute…

Although a dental injury to your teeth may seem like a minor thing to you, it should not be ignored as it can be potentially serious and possibly lead to more permanent damage OR more extensive repair down the road.

Here are some of our team’s thoughts about common emergencies:

Toothache?

Rinse your teeth with warm water and make sure that nothing is lodged. If there is swelling, an ice pack can be used to reduce it. Call us as soon as possible; we probably need to take a look.

Chipped & Broken Tooth?

We know it sounds kind of gross, but save the pieces of the tooth if you can. If you’re bleeding apply gauze pressure. See us as soon as you can.

A Knocked Out Tooth?

“Time is of the essence” in trying to save a tooth. (watch the video below)

A Dislodged Tooth?

If you’re in pain, apply a cold compress and take over-the-counter pain relievers as needed. Call us, and get in here to see us as soon as you can.

Something Caught Between Your Teeth?

First attempt to remove it with dental floss, NOT a sharp object. If you are unsuccessful, call us right away.

Lose A Filling?

Believe it or not, as a temporary measure until you can get in here to see us, you can replace the filling with a piece of sugarless chewing gum. Come in to see us!

Lost A Crown?

Visit Dr. Kachalia and bring the crown! In the meantime, you can try to slip the crown back in, or use a cotton swab to apply a little clove oil to the sensitive area.

Broken Braces Wires?

If the wire is poking you, try using the eraser end of a pencil to push it back into a comfortable position. If you can’t do that, cover it with a piece of gauze or orthodontic wax until you can see us or your orthodontist. Don’t try cutting the wire, as you could end up swallowing it or breathing it in.
